Parenting Teens With Love, Logic, and Laughter

Emotional Intelligence for Parents

"You never trust me." "I'll trust you when you prove to me that you are trustworthy." "How can I do that unless you trust me?" Parenting can seem almost like a Catch-22 at times. The relationship that parents have with their teenagers can be filled with emotional turmoil and conflict. The shift from childhood to adolescence creates a special set of parenting challenges. It is as if the manual for parenting teens comes with a special warning label. Warning: this child is not like the child you used to know during the last 12 years.

Emotional Intelligence for Parents recognizes that there is a special built-in frustration factor when it comes to parenting. This is because the investment and concern that parents have in the outcome is almost always greater than their power to control the outcome. Successful family systems develop when parents and teens learn to negotiate through the difficult issues of trust, respect, freedom, and responsibility. This program is designed to help parents manage the family system by becoming more effective at managing emotions, setting limits, choosing battles and promoting self-esteem, respect and personal responsibility.
